Sewn Signs of Protest by MW
Signs are signed MW for Maranda Williams & Marge Williams. This was a collaboration with my grandmother on the other side.
My grandma Marge was exceptional artist. She won more ribbons and events for her quilts and knitting than I can count (or have the ribbons for). I inherited her extensive quilting cotton archive in 2022, along with her last sewing machine. I hadn’t put them to much use, until I decided to sew banners for protest against the ICE surge here in Minnesota. The positive reactions I received fueled my focus to make more to sell at fundraisers for Mutual Aid in the Twin Cities for those impacted. If you’re reading this, you probably scanned the QR code I attached the pieces at those events. Every sign is unique, and I have numbered them to remember which events they were given to, but also it’s a bit of a nod to my old printmaking past.
Thank you for helping our neighbors by purchasing this piece or showing up at all of the events being organized. You’re the best. <3
